Frequently asked questions

How much does a consultation cost?

Telemedicine is COP 210,000 for 30 minutes. An in-home doctor visit in Bogotá or Medellín is COP 315,000 for 45 minutes. A telemedicine consultation with our Internal Medicine specialist is COP 350,000 for 30 minutes. In-home physical therapy is COP 168,000 for a 60-minute session.

Which cities do you offer in-home visits in?

In-home doctor visits and in-home physical therapy are available only in Bogotá and Medellín. Telemedicine is available anywhere in Colombia. At-home lab collection by a nurse is available in Bogotá, Medellín and Cali.

Can the doctor give me a prescription or sick leave?

Yes, if the doctor deems it necessary after your consultation. Digital prescriptions, sick leave notes and lab orders are issued at the physician's discretion. We do not sell or dispense medications, and controlled medications follow Colombian regulations.

Will I get an invoice for my insurance?

Yes. We provide an invoice and the documentation you need to submit a claim to your insurer. Whether and how much your insurer reimburses depends on your policy.

How long do lab results take?

STD panels are usually ready in 8 to 12 hours and most bloodwork in 12 to 48 hours. Some advanced or specialised tests take longer, and we will tell you the expected time when you book. Samples are collected by a nurse at your home, hotel or a partner lab and processed by the partner laboratory.

What is your cancellation policy?

Card bookings cancelled on the same day can be voided if our payment processor has not closed its daily batch; after that, you receive a credit toward a future appointment. For later cancellations, give at least 12 hours' notice to reschedule or receive a credit. Cancellations with less than 12 hours' notice, or missed appointments, are not eligible for a refund or credit.

Do I need to be in Bogotá to use your services?

No. Telemedicine works from anywhere in Colombia, including your hotel, Airbnb or finca. Only in-home visits are limited to Bogotá and Medellín.

How do I book an appointment?

I then found Expat Doctors in Bogota. They provide quick replies via whatsapp, you can request a doctor to visit you in the hotel you're staying at or have a videocall. They have an easy booking and payment system. The coordinator Hernan provided excellent care and quick responses to get me to see a doctor and obtain a fit to fly certificate as I was having a lot of trouble with my travel insurance following inaccurate Spanish medical reports from previous doctors/practices who didn't speak English. Dr Julian from Expat Doctors was great, spoke excellent English, and examined me in the hotel and provided the medical report and fit to fly certificate that same night. He was very professional and was far more knowledgeable than most doctors I've seen in my life. This is the only place in Colombia I would trust to go to for anything medical as a foreigner. Because of the earthquake a few weeks ago we lost our documentation and had to return to the US to get it all over again (ouch $$$ last minutes flights and hotels.)  I contacted Doctorsforexpats on what's app about 4:45 pm, the young man who answered the phone was quick, efficient, and got us booked for a consultation with a doctor the next morning. The scheduling and payment via WhatsApp was incredibly easy and their receptionist is very quick to respond. Dr. Vargas came to my airbnb and gave me a thorough checkup. Nurse Roa came to my Airbnb a few days later to do some bloodwork and a couple of hours later I had the results of the bloodwork in a .pdf file sent to me.
Dr. Vargas left me a voice message explaining what all of the results actually meant.
Easiest experience visiting a doctor I’ve had in my life!
If you are visiting Bogotá and would prefer an English speaking doctors appointment I would highly recommend doctorsforexpats. It’s a shame something as simple as a doctors visit in the USA has to take half a day and cost a fortune just to speak to a doctor for about two minutes!

Was traveling in Bogota for school and had the flu, but wanted to rule out malaria. I contacted them and they responded within 5 minutes. Got a telehealth visit scheduled a couple hours later, and then got an in-hotel visit to get blood work done that same day. Everything was super easy and everyone was extremely nice.
